Worrying About Retirement

If there’s a word that brings fear and uncertainty to active, working people, it’s “retirement”. They dread the thought of having to spend the rest of their lives just sitting on a chair, watching TV all day and getting up only when food is served. They dread the thought that they would never be active again and that they would never experience the joys they had when they were at their prime. And with today’s weakening economy, their time to retire may come sooner than they expect.

However, according to Allison Rimm, author of the best-selling book “Joy of Strategy: A Business Plan for Life”, retirement need not to be feared and dreaded. In fact, retirement can give you a chance to renew and invigorate yourself, allowing you to pursue the things you haven’t done before.

In the book, Allison discusses the importance of having a business plan for your own life. This is an important step, she mentions, if you want to live a life full of happiness. Doing this business plan will also allow you to know more about your true purpose in this world and provide you with a sense of accomplishment once you have figured out all the answers to all the questions in your mind.

Allison mentions that the first step in creating the business plan for life is to know your passions and talents. These passions and talents are the key to creating the perfect business plan, as within it lay your true purpose in life. Finding out your passions and talents, as detailed in the book, is as simple as recalling your greatest accomplishment in life and knowing what made it a huge success – it may be due to a unique talent of yours or a skill that you have mastered.

Another vital step in creating your business plan is to know your strengths and weaknesses. The book makes use of “SWOT analysis”, a method used to figure out your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and possible threats. Knowing these things will help you plan ahead and create a path towards your happiness.

However, the path to finding happiness and your true purpose in life is not as simple as finding out these things. There is no easy way to get there and you are bound to lose motivation at some point in time. That is why it is important to create a momentum, taking in small steps one at a time, facing fears on the way, and then progress until you reach the end of the road.

“If he’s got passion in life, he’s got something that you want to do and you feel a real sense of purpose, he’s got to dig deep, find out what’s bringing your back from achieving that, address it head on, and just go for it with all you’ve got.”, says Allison.
