Ways to Save Infographic[2]_00001:DentalPlans Explains How BOOMERS Can Save on Healthcare

The “Baby Boomers” are aging, and living longer than previous generations. By 2029, the number of Americans 65+ and older will increase from 41 million to 70 million, a 75 percent increase, according to Governing.com. Between 2020 and 2039, the number of people aged 75+ is expected to grow by an astonishing 93 percent. And for the next 20 years, the senior population will swell more than 3 percent per year, significantly higher than the average population growth across all age categories. By midcentury, people over 65 are expected to outnumber children ages 15 and younger. As a result of this significant and noteworthy population shift, health-care consumption will multiply exponentially, with Boomers facing the increased medical costs that often come with aging.

In general, healthcare costs have increased by 6.5 percent since last year, per The Milliman Medical Index, and quintupled over the last eight decades, according to The American Magazine.

Healthcare expenses are expected to overtake shelter within the next five years, and these costs will soar over the coming decades.

As medical costs continue to skyrocket, millions of Boomers are looking for ways to save on their healthcare expenses. In fact, 25 percent of people have reduced other areas of their budget so they can afford necessary healthcare services, according to The :DP SmileMeter™, a national survey recently conducted by :DentalPlans, the largest dental savings plan marketplace in the USA. :DentalPlans can help Boomers that are looking for more affordable healthcare options.

“:DentalPlans provides affordable dental care solutions so individuals don’t have to make the difficult choice of whether they can afford dental care, but can instead choose which plan best accommodates their needs,” said Bill Chase, :DentalPlans’ VP of Marketing. “Dental savings plans provide choices, with affordable, attainable solutions for adults, seniors, and families, allowing them to get the high-quality dental care they need.”

According to the :DentalPlans survey, more than half the respondents (54 percent) have taken action to save money on healthcare costs. Of those, more than half (55 percent) have asked for cheaper prescriptions, and 52 percent have questioned charges on medical bills. Almost one-third have used the Internet to compare costs. High prices have driven 20 percent to delay filling prescriptions and/or switch healthcare providers. Expenses have even driven 5 percent offshore to seek cheaper care in other countries.

Although women are often considered to be “bargain shoppers,” 60 percent of men said they actively seek ways to save money on healthcare services, the survey revealed. Another 15 percent have purchased supplemental plans – like those offered from :DentalPlans – to reduce costs.

Dental savings plans help individuals, seniors, families, and groups save on their dental care and other health-related services. After paying one low annual membership fee, dental savings plan participants enjoy various benefits, including discounts of 10 to 60 percent off what they’d typically pay out-of-pocket without a savings plan or dental insurance. Participants can use the plan immediately with no waiting period. There are no forms to file, no limit on how often they can use the plan, and an open enrollment all year long.

:DentalPlans, founded in 1999, is the largest dental savings plan marketplace in the USA, offering consumers access to 40+ dental savings plans from trusted healthcare brands, like Aetna, Careington, Signature Wellness, and UNI-CARE. Plan members have access to more than 100,000 dentists nationwide.
