When Frank Staron was growing up, many adults hit their 60s, retired and “sat in a chair,” as he put it.

But the 60-year-old Woodstock resident said his fellow baby boomers have a much different vision now that they are officially an “older generation.”

“It’s not like when my father or grandfather were that age,” he said. “There weren’t the kinds of things to do that there are today.”

Finding those “things” can be a bit of a chore and that’s why he was glad to find the online “Spunky Seniors Club,” a new, subscription-based website started by A. Val JuLian Sealee, another Woodstock resident and a former nurse.

It costs $4.99 per month to join for a year. Month-to-month memberships are available. Sealee said her idea came partially from a hunch that there are many seniors who could be more active if they had more information that catered to their needs, interests and geographic area.
